Frequently Asked Questions
Therapy offers a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. It can help you gain insight into challenges, develop healthier coping strategies, improve relationships, and strengthen your overall confidence and well-being. Many clients find that therapy provides new perspectives, fosters resilience, and supports them in creating meaningful changes in their lives.
While therapy can be deeply beneficial, it also has some limitations and potential risks. Talking about difficult feelings or experiences may feel uncomfortable at times, and progress can vary depending on individual needs and circumstances. Therapy is not a “quick fix,” and lasting change often requires commitment and ongoing effort. In some cases, symptoms may initially feel more intense before improvement occurs.
Telehealth therapy offers the convenience of receiving care from your own home and increases access to services. However, there are also unique limitations. Though Plot Point uses HIPAA compliant platforms, privacy cannot always be guaranteed outside of a secure, private environment, and technical issues such as poor internet connections may occasionally interrupt sessions. Additionally, telehealth may not be appropriate in all situations, particularly for clients experiencing severe crises or needing more intensive, in-person support.
At this time, we are conducting all sessions, including individual and groups, online only.
What you share in therapy is treated with respect and kept private. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship and is designed to help you feel safe and supported.
However, there are a few circumstances, required by law and professional ethics, where a therapist may need to break confidentiality without your consent. These typically include:
If you are at imminent risk of harming yourself or others.
If there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or dependent adult.
If records are required by a valid court order or legal mandate.
In such situations, your therapist will share only the information necessary to protect your safety or the safety of others.
Sometimes, sharing information can also help coordinate your care and support your treatment. With your written consent, your therapist may communicate with other providers (such as physicians, psychiatrists, or school staff), or with trusted family members, to ensure you have access to the most comprehensive care possible. You are always in control of whether and how this information is shared, and you may withdraw consent at any time.
Your first therapy session is a chance for us to get to know each other and for you to share what brings you to therapy. We’ll talk about your current challenges, relevant history, and hopes for the future. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, express any concerns, and begin to get a sense of whether our therapeutic approach feels like the right fit for you. Many clients feel a mix of relief and nervousness when starting therapy - both are completely normal. Together, we’ll take the first step toward creating a plan that supports your goals and well-being.
Session frequency and duration can vary based on your specific needs. Individual sessions typically occur once per week, and are 50 minutes long. Based on your needs, sessions may occur twice per week or may be reduced to 45 minutes. Additionally, as you make substantive progress towards your goals, sessions may become less frequent to focus on reinforcing and maintaining developed skills.
Groups typically meet for a fixed number of weeks for 60 to 90 minutes. For additional information relative to specific groups, click here.

Yes. For clients who are paying out of pocket or who do not meet insurance eligibility requirements, we offer sliding scale fees to help make therapy more accessible. This flexible, income-based option is designed to support individuals who may be experiencing financial constraints, while still ensuring access to quality care. Please reach out to discuss your circumstances, and together we can determine whether a sliding scale rate is the right fit for you.
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, we kindly ask for notice within at least 24 hours of your confirmed appointment time. Since your session time is reserved specifically for you, we reserve the right to charge your regular session fee if less than a 24 hour notice is given and a makeup session cannot be scheduled within the same week.
Please also note that repeated tardiness, late cancellations (within 24 hours), or missed appointments without notice (no-shows) may affect our ability to provide consistent care. In such cases, we may discuss whether it is appropriate to continue treatment or refer you to other services that can better meet your needs.
